New Law of Ukraine On Veterinary Medicine No. 1206-IX of February 4, 2021, set to come into force on September 1, 2025, introduces fundamental revisions to the regulatory framework in the relevant sector compared to current Law of Ukraine On Veterinary Medicine No. 2498-XII of June 25, 1992.
These changes impact the basic principles of conducting business activities in the relevant sector, specifically:
- licensing of business activities within the relevant sector (while the production of veterinary medicinal products is currently subject to licensing, the new law also introduces licensing for the import, wholesale and retail distribution of veterinary medicinal products);
- enhancing the marketing authorization process for veterinary medicinal products in alignment with European standards;
- ensuring confidentiality of information contained in the marketing authorisation application dossier for veterinary medicine, etc.
Given the forthcoming regulatory updates, the relevance of legal services within the veterinary sector is expected to grow significantly.
