The Pan-Ukrainian Spring School of Medical Law training seminar took place on March 20 - 22 in Simferopol.
The event was sponsored by Legal Alliance Law Firm who was invited as its General Partner.
The seminar was aimed to provide holistic training in essential aspects of medical law for law students. Individual courses were hosted by leading experts in the field with a view to build a basement for a future force of professional lawyers able to provide qualified service in medical law.
The most brilliant representatives of the Ukrainian law student community were selected to participate in the seminar. School attendees represented 15 higher learning institutions from 10 cities of Ukraine.
The School provided discussions on methodology and problems of medical law, its distinctive features, and future development prospects.
Students looked into modern concepts of patient rights, medical worker legal status, defects in medical assistance and legal responsibility of physicians for patient rights abuse and were offered a comparative analysis of patient rights implementation in different countries.
During the School's second day, a special master class for students was hosted by Legal Alliance senior partner Ilya Kostin. Students were offered illustrations of particularities of «medical» cases in courts and in the existing law practice.
Dmitry Aleshko, another senior partner of Legal Alliance, dwelled on important aspects of medical practice licensing and healthcare standardisation.
The discussion on healthcare institutions accreditation covered aspects of patient rights protection against unlawful behaviour of medical workers.
Mr Aleshko offered the students a practical debate on theories of several real cases related to his master class subject.
Trainers, guests and attendees of the Pan-Ukrainian Spring School of Medical Law extended their thanks to the event sponsors marking superior organisation of the seminar. They all hoped to meet again at the 2nd Pan-Ukrainian Spring School of Medical Law in one year.
It was emphasised that communication of medical law knowledge would foster general legal awareness of the Ukrainian public.
Conscious promotion of legal rights and interests within the medical law framework on a day-to-day basis will be an indispensable element of Ukraine's developing into a law-governed state and building a sustainable and solid civil society.
